for emergencies

If you’re not safe right now, here’s where to call.

This page is not the app. It’s a list of phone numbers, a grounding technique you can do in 60 seconds, and a short guide on how to be with someone who is struggling. Use what helps. Then come back.

Call now if you’re in danger

Pick the number for your region. These reach a real human within seconds. They are free. They will not judge you. You don’t need a script — just say where you are and what is happening.

60-second grounding (5-4-3-2-1)

If your body is rushing, this brings you back into the room. It works because attention can only do one thing at a time. Slow down. Speak each step out loud if you can.

  1. 1
    5 things you can see
Look around. Name them. Out loud. The mug. The corner of the door. A scuff on the floor. A power outlet. Your shoelace. Pause on each.
  2. 2
    4 things you can touch
Press your palm flat. Feel the texture. The chair under you. The cold of a window. Your own jaw — unclench it. The fabric of your sleeve.
  3. 3
    3 things you can hear
Stay silent for ten seconds. The fridge. A car. Your own breath. Whatever is closest, then whatever is furthest.
  4. 4
    2 things you can smell
If nothing strong is around, smell the inside of your wrist, your collar, the desk. Anything counts.
  5. 5
    1 thing you can taste
Sip water. Hold it on your tongue for a moment. Notice it. Now take one slow breath in for four counts, out for six. Repeat that breath three times.

If someone you love is struggling

You don’t have to fix anything. Most of what helps is presence and asking the boring direct questions. Here’s what therapists actually recommend.

  • Ask directly“Are you thinking about hurting yourself?” Asking does not put the idea there. It opens a door.
  • Listen without fixingDon’t jump to solutions. Don’t say “it could be worse.” Say “I’m here. I’m listening. Tell me more.”
  • Remove access to meansIf they’ve mentioned a method, gently and matter-of-factly help them put it out of reach. Pills, weapons. This single step saves lives.
  • Don’t leave them alone tonightIf the danger is acute — stay, or have someone else stay, or take them to an ER. Don’t make them promise to be okay.
  • Take care of you tooCaring is heavy. Talk to someone yourself. You don’t need to carry it alone, and you cannot pour from an empty cup.

What Willow Labs can and cannot do

Willow Labs is an AI companion for the spaces between sessions: a 3 a.m. anxiety spiral, a hard conversation you’re rehearsing, a low Tuesday you can’t name. It uses techniques from CBT, ACT, IFS and other evidence-based approaches.

It is not a therapist. It is not a doctor. It cannot prescribe medication, file a 5150 hold, or guarantee your safety. If you’re in active danger, the numbers above are the right call. We exist for the rest of the days.
